Semiconductor Collaboration
A client with over 25 years of leadership in the global semiconductor sector is in discussions with the Malta Semiconductor Competence Centre to support Malta's growing role within Europe's semiconductor ecosystem.
The initiative connects education, research, and industry with international expertise from Asia and the USA, through industry-aligned training, engineer mentoring, applied research, and strategic advisory support.
Drawing on world-class experience in precision inspection and laser-based metrology, the project will strengthen technical capacity, develop specialised talent, and enhance Malta's position within the European semiconductor supply chain.
National Impact
The project, led by the University of Malta, will help connect education, research, and industry through the Malta Semiconductor Competence Centre, bringing together local institutions and international expertise from Asia and the USA. This will support industry-aligned training, mentoring for engineers, applied research, and strategic advisory work that can directly respond to the needs of the semiconductor sector.
Nationally, the initiative will contribute to the development of specialised technical talent in areas such as precision inspection, laser-based metrology, and advanced semiconductor technologies. This can help Malta build a stronger skills pipeline, support higher-value employment, and create new opportunities for students, engineers, researchers, and industry partners.
The project also strengthens Malta's position within the European semiconductor supply chain by improving local technical capacity and linking Malta to global expertise and industrial networks. In doing so, it supports Malta Vision 2050 priorities around economic resilience, innovation, international competitiveness, and the transition towards high-value strategic sectors.
