National Football Development Initiative
A strategic initiative supporting the growth of football in Malta through investment in world-class infrastructure and inclusive community programmes.
Central to this proposal is the National Football Centre at Ta' Qali, featuring UEFA-compliant facilities, sports science and medical units, and dedicated education spaces.
The project strengthens youth, elite, and grassroots pathways while promoting community engagement, social inclusion, and sport-driven wellbeing across Malta and Gozo.
National Impact
Endorsed by the Malta Sport Authority, the National Football Development Initiative represents a project of significant national impact, positioning football as a driver of sporting excellence, community development, public wellbeing and social inclusion across Malta and Gozo.
Through strategic investment in the National Football Centre at Ta' Qali, the initiative will provide Malta with modern, UEFA-compliant infrastructure capable of supporting the full football pathway, from grassroots participation and youth development to elite performance and national-team preparation. The inclusion of sports science, medical, education and training facilities will strengthen athlete care, coaching standards, talent identification and long-term player development.
Beyond infrastructure, the project will create a more inclusive and accessible football ecosystem. By supporting community programmes, school and youth engagement, grassroots clubs, women's and girls' football, and participation opportunities across Malta and Gozo, the initiative will help widen access to sport and encourage healthier, more active lifestyles.
The project will also deliver broader social value by using football as a platform for community cohesion, personal development, volunteering, education and wellbeing. It will support local clubs, coaches, officials and families while creating stronger links between elite sport and everyday community participation.
